Co-Occurring Disorders in Clinical Practice
This 5.5-hour Core CEU training equips social workers to recognize and treat co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Participants will learn to distinguish substance-induced symptoms from primary psychiatric symptoms using timing, history, and course of illness, and will explore why integrated care—rather than sequential or parallel treatment—is the standard of practice for these conditions. The training then shifts to relapse prevention, covering the Relapse Prevention Model, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, and Gorski's CENAPS model. Through applied, case-based exercises, participants will practice identifying client triggers, distinguishing a lapse from a full relapse, and building individualized coping strategies.
